Sporting layouts are designed to simulate real game shooting. Hence the names given to the various targets; Springing Teal, Lighting Duck, Bolting Rabbit etc. Because of the variety of targets, you will need to master a variety of shooting styles.
Swing Through Method
As the name implies this method of shooting involves "swinging through" the target and shooting as you pass the target. It's suitable for certain types of target but requires some experience to estimate the lead needed.
Maintained Lead
This is an old method of shooting dating back to the early matchlock guns. You had to hold your gun in front while you pull the trigger and waited patiently for the charge to ignite!
Again, experience is required to estimate line, elevation, angle and speed to be able to keep your gun in the right place.
Cut Off Method
Similar to maintained lead and popular with skeet shooters. This method is suited to certain types of target and requires the least amount of gun movement. It is sometimes called Move, Mount, Shoot.
Spot Shooting Method
Also known as the Ambush Method, this method is useful for fast and long targets, especially droppers and long incoming targets.
CPSA Method™
Widely recognised to be the most consistent and reliable method of shooting a moving target.because it automatically causes the gun to move at the same speed and follow the same line as the target.
What next?
Whether you decide to take an introductory lesson or take part in the CPSA Academy, we will show you how to shoot all of the above methods which will enable you to tackle any targets. The knowledge gained will expand your technique and style and make you a better all round shot. If you take part in the Academy and wish to progress further in the Sporting discipline, we can pass you on to one of many qualified Level 2 Sporting Coaches.
